Discussion

Tours
One of the top ideas for the Chapter was tours - touring local animation and production studios for MN SIGGRAPH meetings. This has been done before in the past, and it was met with great enthusiasm. All present were in favor of doing such. To make this happen, please send an email to and put your name in as one of the animation / production studios that our local SIGGRAPH chapter will be able to visit and tour. Wet Cement Productions offered their studio as one that could be toured for a SIGGRAPH meeting.

Panel Discussion / Debate
All present would like to see a forum where particular topics could be discussed by invited speakers, and then a time given to the members to ask questions & debate topics. One such topic that had great interest was “Education for Animation in the Twin Cities.”
Issues therein:
1. Great demand for classes that teach quality 3D animation programs.
2. Students that graduate with good demo reels.
3. Filtering process for students going into such programs.
4. Generating the student body that would be needed to support such
expensive classes and cover costs for the instructors.
5. Studios taking on interns, teaching and helping to create demo reels
for students, but most feel that the schools and the studios could never develop a program where schools would work with the studios to develop intern opportunities (or vice versa?).
6. Creating programs that teach 3D game development. The demand for
learning game development is one of the most popular today, yet our local
resources for teaching game development seems very small.
7. And more!

Jobs
Staying connected means hearing about job opportunities. One current opening was mentioned at the meeting - to be posted to the e-mail list.

MET 2003
We've had a great start, but we are always looking for more support. If you are interested, or know of a good resource for the MET 2003, please contact us!
